Interactive Workshop A – 27 January 2023

Learning About The Foundations Of LCA And How To Perform The Calculations For Tier 1,2 & 3 Vendors

A Practical Step By Step Guide, For The Tier 1 – 3 Supply Chain, On How To Complete A LCA Calculation

According to a recent research campaign conducted by American Business Conferences, it is not uncommon for some material or component producers to be unfamiliar with the fundamentals of LCA calculations.

This workshop session may also interest manufacturers of plastic parts made from plastics or reinforced composites, as well as battery manufacturers and suppliers of parts for motors and other battery-related components.

Key takeaways from this workshop that focuses on how to do a: CA for a part or component as opposed to the whole vehicle:-

Learn how to compute an LCA calculation and handle common areas of ambiguity surrounding assumptions and a lack of guidelines on interpreting some parts. Understand how to consider the end of life in your products and actual product use.

08:45 – 09:00 Introduction and objectives set by the workshop leader

09:00 – 10:30 How to calculate an LCA for a part or component.

10:30 – 11:00 Coffee and networking with other participants

11:00 – 12:00 Practical examples of LCA calculations for various products, components, and parts. Includes a discussion on addressing the key assumptions

12:00 – 12:45 The basics of data handling and sourcing, including how to work with different OEMs, have different standards

12:45 – 13:30 Extended problem-solving and questions regarding standardization

13:30 Close of the morning workshop

Interactive Workshop B – 15 December 2022 PM

“Collaborating On LCA Standardization In The Automotive Industry”

For experienced practitioners of LCA calculations who are looking to collaborate with OEMs and the supply chain to find solutions for greater standardization

This workshop is intended for practitioners familiar with the fundamentals of LCA and who want to simplify the process by working together to discuss how to approach standardization with other OEMs and suppliers.

Several OEMs may submit numerous requests to suppliers for LCA calculations and vice versa. In contrast, OEMs may deal with suppliers who work with other OEMs with vastly different assumptions. By bringing everyone together, the objective is to hear divergent practitioner perspectives on standardization and discuss potential solutions for simplifying the calculation.

Part of the value of this discussion will be hearing different perspectives on the assumptions that drive LCA interpretation so that you can acquire a better understanding of how to report data that makes sense for your customers and key stakeholders.

The workshop is formatted to allow plenty of time to discuss the goals and what each OEM or supplier is trying to achieve—and then looking at coming up with potential standardization solutions and offering ample time for discussing each OEM's objectives and supplier.

13:45 – 14:00 Introduction and objectives set by the workshop leader

14:00 – 15:00 Mapping out the common interpretation issues and data challenges

15:00 – 15:30 Coffee and networking with other participants

15:30 – 16:30 The pathway to greater standardization in action applied to whole vehicle LCA calculations

16:30 – 17:30 pm The pathway to greater standardization in action applied to part LCA calculations

17:30 – 18:00 Extended questions and discussion and sharing viewpoints

18:00 Close of the afternoon workshop
